REO Speedwagon ... the video game?!?
Okay, so it needs a better title (though that's the name of their last studio album). The video game can be downloaded on Macs or PCs and is aimed at "casual gamers" (so sorry, World of Warcraft fanatics), which are primarily adults over 30 years old and - oddly enough - predominantly female.
In REO's game, "the player is the protagonist in a story that unfolds across dozens of game levels for several hours of entertainment. The game is designed to appeal to both the typical gamer, and the dedicated REO Speedwagon fan," according to the official game announcement.
As players hit higher levels, they earn prizes, like a re-recording of a classic tune or a single from the latest album. A "Golden Ticket" is well-hidden but when found could earn a player free concert tickets and a meet-and-greet with the band.
"We are always looking for exciting ways to stay current in a music world which is constantly changing," says lead singer Kevin Cronin. "Video gaming is a whole new vehicle to get our music out to our fans, as well as connect us with new fans world wide... and our avatars are quite handsome."The game is just $8 to buy online; and you can play the trial version for free for an hour.
