Replacements reunite to record EP; new album possible

replacements-let-it-be.jpgPaul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson of The Replacements have reunited to record four cover songs for an vinyl-only EP that will be auctioned off later this year. According to Slicingupeyeballs.com, the project will help pay off medical expenses of former bandmate Slim Dunlap, who suffered a stroke earlier this year.

Replacements drummer Chris Mars "didn't want any part of this" reunion, Westerberg told Rolling Stone. "I was not surprised, but I was a little disappointed." Instead, Peter Anderson drummed, and Kevin Bowe played guitar.

The tracks were recorded in late September, and if you're hoping to get a copy of this EP, good luck: Only 250 copies will be pressed.

According to Westerberg's official website, the four songs are:

  • Slim's own "Busted Up "
  • "Everything's Coming Up Roses"
  • "I'm Not Sayin'" - Gordon Lightfoot
  • "Lost Highway" - Hank Williams

Will this mini-reunion lead to a new, full album of material? "It's possible," Westerberg told RS. "After playing with Tommy last week, I was thinking, 'All right, let's crank it up and knock out a record like this.' I'm closer to it now than I was two years ago, let's say that."
