Rick Springfield forgot words to 'Don't Talk to Strangers' during Tampa concert
Rick Springfield is '80s royalty and has twice graced me with an interview. I'd walk through broken glass for the guy, and unless they someone find a connection between his music and cancer, I'll be playing his hits until the day I die. However...
On Wednesday, during a performance at the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City (outside Tampa, for folks who don't live in Florida), Mr. Rick Springfield actually forgot the words to one of his biggest hits, according to fan Chris Stainton of Tampa, who was at the show.
"It was Don't Talk to Strangers, second verse," Chris reports. "He just started singing and blanked out."
"He said, 'I've been playing this song for 51 years, and I cannot remember the lyrics,' " Chris says. "He was laughing about it, the crowd was applauding. Once the chorus came back around he recovered and continued."
Don't Talk to Strangers is actually a 1982 hit by Rick that rose to No. 2 on the charts, so the "51 years" remark seems a bit off -- and cruel. Everyone's entitled to a few gaffs, Rick!
