Riding the store out
REO Speedwagon has a new website, a new album and a new promotion strategy: They cut a deal to promote the disc exclusively at Wal-Mart.
Kevin Cronin and Bruce Hall are making in-store appearances throughout the Midwest, playing a couple acoustic tunes and doing the old meet-and-greet with fans. It's all part of a three-week exclusive deal with the retail giant to promote the band's new album -- "Find Your Own Way Home" -- its first in 10 years.
So Wal-Mart and REO Speedwagon?
"We're people-people," Cronin told a Minnesota TV station, "and this is where people come to buy music."
Speaking of people ... Hey, REO, how about expanding your online store of goodies? I've been hankering for a concert shirt, but I can't buy one until you come out with more Stuck in the 80s-friendly sizes.
Speaking of music ... God knows I love REO more than a man my age should. And I can never hear "Keep On Lovin' You" enough. (All-time favorite karaoke song.) But until today, I don't think I ever saw the original video for the tune. And that's a very, very good thing. Because it easily is one of the worst videos to grace the 80s.
