Smithereens hit the road for summer tour

smithereens.jpgThe Smithereens plan to hit the road this summer, announcing a slew of dates that actually starts tonight in Maryland.

The band, which was recently inducted into New Jersey's rock hall of fame, has been around since 1980, but didn't hit paydirt really until the late '80s. Their song A Girl Like You -- a No. 2 charter on the mainstream rock charts -- might have been a bigger hit had it been used as the theme song to Cameron Crowe's Say Anything movie, as originally planned according to urban legend. (No hard feelings, right guys?) says the band will include original members Pat DiNizio, Jim Babjak and Dennis Diken, plus bassist Severo Jornacion (who replaced Mike Mesaros in 2006). Sorry, but no Florida dates are included so far.
