Star Trek: The Next Generation celebrates 25 years with theatrical screening
Let's see. How nerdy can I make this and how many puns can I squeeze into one sentence. Greetings, Trekkie and Trekkers and mark your stardate calendars for July 23 because Star Trek: The Next Generation is beaming two classic episodes into a holodeck near you. Now just substitute holodeck for movie theater and it's pretty accurate.
Star Trek TNG first aired in 1987, so it was just a matter of time until the United Federation of Planets found an appropriate way to mark the occasion. On July 23 at 7 p.m., two of the most popular episodes -- Ep. 106 "Where No One Has Gone Before" and Ep. 114 "Datalore" -- will be simulcast to theaters all over.
The shows were transferred from their original source material as part of an ongoing restoration of the series. The anniversary also marks the release on July 24 of TNG's first season on Blu-ray.
Tickets for the Star Trek: The Next Generation 25th Anniversary Event are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com.
Here are the Tampa Bay area theaters participating:
- AMC Regency 20 in Brandon
- Regal Park Place Stadium 16 in Pinellas Park
- Regal Citrus Stadium Park Mall 20 in Tampa
- Cobb Lakeside 18 Cinemas in Lakeland
- Cobb Hyde Park Cinebistro in Tampa
- Cobb Grove 16 Cinemas in Wesley Chapel
In the meantime, here's my favorite viral video parody of The Next Generation. It's probably NSFW so use headphones and a sense of humor.
