Styx coming to Tampa Bay on June 3 (minus REO, Nugent and anything mentioning 'Kilroy Was Here')

April

kilroy.jpgStyx has a June 3 date at Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall, the venue has just announced. It's a surprise booking, in some respects because Styx is on the road this summer doing a big tour with REO Speedwagon and Ted Nugent. That tour, however, has no plans to hit Florida. But Styx fans will be happy to catch Tommy Shaw and the boys at this more intimate venue.

Reserved tickets priced at $79.50, $59.50, $46.50 and $35; they go on sale April 28 at noon.

What's a little more odd is that the official Styx bio that the band releases these days is a little short on history. Oh, it extolls the successes of Come Sail Away, Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Fooling Yourself and the Paradise Theater album. And then it jumps ahead to 1984's live Caught in the Act album.

What's missing?

That little album from 1983 named Kilroy Was Here. Nevermind that it hit No. 3 on the charts and spawned two Top 10 hits. The real problem? It was the brain-child of former frontman Dennis DeYoung, whose name must be verboten to Styx members these days because his name is omitted entirely from the officially approved bio. It does mention Mr. Roboto in passing as part of a "humorous car ad" but that's all. That song probably paid for plenty of cars for Tommy and James Young. That makes it far less laughable than the band's selective memories of the past.
