Sunday earworm: 'Heartlight' from E.T.
An unusual earmork pick for a Sunday? Not really. It's in hnor of actor Henry Thomas, who played Elliott in 1982's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Thomas turns 41 years old today.
In case you're wondering where you've seen him since then, Thomas also played a young Norman Bates in Psycho IV: The Beginning. And Brad Pitt fans probably recognize Thomas as Pitt's younger brother -- Samuel Ludlow -- in 1994's Legends of the Fall.
As for the song, Heartlight was performed and co-written by Neil Diamond (along with Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach). Though it doesn't appear in E.T., it was inspired by movie, which all three songwriters saw together. The trio had to pay Universal Studios a small fee for "use of ideas from the film." Nice heart there, Universal.
