Sunday earworm: Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys turns 57 (and it's a sin)
Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys probably does things on his birthday so eccentric that the rest of us would say, "What? Why? Wait ... Damn...." I'd go into more detail, but that defeats my premise.
I've never understood the ambivalence that some '80s fans show toward the Pet Shop Boys. I admit that for the longest time, my only knowledge of the group was based solely on West End Girls, a song that's far more grating than just about anything else in their incredibly prolific catalog. That's why today's earworm is It's a Sin, a 1987 tune that spent three weeks atop the British music charts. It's probably the perfect '80s combination of music, lyrics and video.
So celebrate Neil's birthday today by expanding your horizons. If you continue to think of PSB as a one-hit wonder for West End Girls, well, then that's the real sin.
