A-Team brings its A-Game: I love when a remake comes together

Ateam
Fans of The A-Team from the '80s can officially relax and celebrate: The 2010 big-screen version of your beloved action-adventure TV series is as funny, flashy and reverent as can be.

And some really good news: Even if you weren't a big fan of the original series, you'll still love this flick. Here are some first impressions after seeing it Tuesday morning.

THE CAST: Give Hollywood some credit. They nailed the casting PERFECTLY. Liam Neeson does the perfect George Peppard comb-over as Col. Hannibal and chomps a cigar like the late actor. Bradley Cooper easily slips into the "Faceman" role of Dirk Benedict (who makes a cameo, though you'll probably miss it). Quinton "Rampage" Jackson does all he can to take on Mr. T's signature role, and I must, by law, "pity the fool" who doesn't appreciate his take on the trademark mohawk and tattooed knuckles. But District 9's Sharlto Copley steals all the laughs as "Howling Mad" Murdoch.

THE PLOT: The first 30 minutes flies by, but I could only laugh early on as locales are identified only as "Somewhere in Mexico" and then "Somewhere else in Mexico." But it gets better once the boys are dropped in Iraq to help facilitate the withdrawal of U.N. forces. A scramble for some lost U.S. currency plates quickly identifies the good guys from the bad guys -- or so you think.

THE CATCHPRASES: Get ready to hear about "the plan," "the good plan," "the plan coming together," the "plan this," the "plan that." We get it: The writers obviously loved the "I love it when a plan comes together" trademark of Hannibal. 'B.A.' Baracus gets his "fool" lines in. And Faceman? Well, let's just say he properly plays lip service to every female castmember.

THE VERDICT: Times film critic Steve Persall, who gave it an A-minus, called it "this summer's Star Trek." That's good right? Finally, we have an '80s remake that makes us proud.
