"That's a nice purse:" Creepy man from 'Trading Places' dies
"Creepy Man" is a horrible way to describe Jacques Sandulescu from 1983's Trading Places, but that's how he's formally credited. You remember him. He was the ... well ... creepy man who sat down next to Dan Aykroyd's uptight girlfriend in the Philadelphia police station and asked about her purse.
"Is that your purse? That's a nice purse."
Concise. Spooky. Brilliant.
"Well, anyway, he died Friday night," my friend Brian Abrams reports. "I've put together some bio info and got some quotes from his widow, Annie Gottlieb, a former NYT book reviewer who gave me some behind-the-scenes nuggets about the 'nice purse' line."
There's a lot more to it than you thought possible. Read the full tale at Abrams' blog Dreidel Hustler.
