A third 'Bill and Ted' movie: Excellent or bogus?
Keanu Reeves says he's serious about wanting to make a third installment of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, MTV says. The 1989 film starred Reeves and Alex Winter, along with the late George Carlin.
"We're trying. Alex and I are still friends and we're talking" Keanu recently told MTV. "To me, I'd love to play the role."
The big challenge: Getting original writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon on board with a good idea, he says.
"They're going to try and see if they can write something," Keanu said.
The original Bill & Ted movie followed Keanu and Winter as two hapless students/aspiring musicians as they used a time machine to collect information for a history report. Failure to pass the class would bring catastrophic results to the future of mankind, as Carlin explains. (Wow. When you actually write what the movie is about, it sounds so bad. But really, it's great stuff.) It had one sequel, 1991's Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey that was good enough that Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert called it " a riot of visual invention and weird humor that works on its chosen sub-moronic level."
Still, I'm sure you won't mind if I pull from the original for today's Top 5 list.
TOP 5 QUOTES FROM MINOR CHARACTERS IN BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE:
