Weird Al is all gaga over diva's change of heart
It looks like Weird Al Yankovic is going to be allowed to release Perform This Way on his new album after all after Lady Gaga had a change of heart about allowing the parody of Born This Way.
Well, that's not exactly the "on the record" version of the story, but that's what I choose to believe. Here's what Al is saying now:
"After putting my Lady Gaga parody on YouTube this morning – and announcing that it wouldn’t be on my next album because Gaga didn’t approve it – there was a huge outpouring of disappointment from the Internet," Weird Al blogged last night after originally telling the world of his original problems with the pop diva. "Apparently the fact that she didn’t approve it was news to Lady Gaga herself! Gaga’s manager has now admitted that he never forwarded my parody to Gaga – she had no idea at all. Even though we assumed that Gaga herself was the one making the decision (because, well, that’s what we were TOLD), he apparently made the decision completely on his own. He’s sorry. And Gaga loves the song."
I'm happy for Al, but I still am not sure I believe Gaga's camp. My theory: She shot it down, was caught off-guard by the backlash and then was probably told by her accountants that a Weird Al parody was a good thing for her career (and pocketbook). Maybe I'm wrong. I guess I'm just a cynic when it comes to the numbing pop culture distractions of this sad 20-something generation.
