What were biggest movie busts of 1981?

heartbeeps1.jpgOf course, we're all fans of '80s movies, but let's not pretend there weren't some HUGE DOGS some of those years. For today's exercise, let's pick, oh, 1981! (Podcast spoiler!)

Cast your mind back to that glorious year. Raiders of the Lost Ark, Stripes and Porky's ruled the box office. And maybe a few of us were dragged to On Golden Pond and Absence of Malice as well. But those were great flicks.

Dig deeper. Deeper! Heaven's Gate deep! And Mommie Dearest. And god help us all, Burt Reynolds in Cannonball Run.

We want your votes for the BIGGEST MOVIE BUSTS OF 1981. (Here's a full list of movies from that year.) We'll pick one reader favorite (or unfavorite) for this week's podcast. Here are three that are worth considering:

TARZAN THE APE MAN (Bo Derek, Richard Harris): Let's face it, Bo wasn't known for her acting. Fave line: "Oh, shut up, you boring son of a bitch!"

THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING WOMAN (Lili Tomlin, Charles Grodin): Oddly enough, famed critic Roger Ebert enjoyed it ... somewhat: "But The Incredible Shrinking Woman is not inane, is sometimes wickedly knowing, and is only periodically boring."

HEARTBEEPS (Andy Kaufman, Bernadette Peters): So bad and so unwatched that you can argue it's not a bust.
