Who should open? ZZ Top joins Tom Petty for Tampa concert

Zz top Here's some bizarre news: ZZ Top has been added to the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers concert on Sept. 16 at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. [Click here for other tour dates.]

Both acts are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Both bands have their roots in Southern-fried rock -- ZZ Top in Texas, Tom and the boys in Gainesville, Fla. Both had their hey-days in the '70s and '80s. Tom Petty played a Super Bowl halftime. ZZ Top? Not yet.

So who opens for who? It's Tom's tour, so expect the see the Bearded Wonders on stage first. And I wouldn't be surprised to see a third act added before it's all said and done. Remember, Joe Cocker was originally set to be the opener before the concert was rescheduled.

Still, would it be hoping too much to see Tom join Dusty, Billy and Frank on stage for a tune or two? If it happened, what song makes most sense? And would it be a ZZ Top song or a Petty song?
