But if there's a weak spot in its armor, it's in the field of holiday TV specials. Think about it: Every great holiday TV special comes from a decade that doesn't begin with the number 8. Charlie Brown and the Grinch in the '60s. Santa Claus is Comin' to Town in the 70s. Heck, even the so-dreadful-it's-great Star Wars Christmas Special was in the late '70s. Urlesque.com has done the work none of us would be willing to do: It has ranked the Worst Holiday TV Specials of the '80s. I can't bring myself to reveal their whole list. (Click here to see it along with video clips from each show.) But here are the top 5, along with Urlesque's observations. TOP 5 WORST HOLIDAY TV SPECIALS IN THE '80s: 5. The Adventures of Candy Claus (1987): "There's no way this special didn't disrupt the normal development of any child who was unfortunate enough to have seen it." 4. The Village People in 'Can't Stop the Christmas Music -- On Ice!' (1980): "The Village People mobilize to save Christmas after Santa Claus cops a serious hernia." 3. A Chipmunk Christmas (1981): "Maybe the sarcastic sweatshirted rodents learn the true meaning of Christmas, but does that really require a boy to die of Cholera?" 2. ALF's Christmas Special (1987): "ALF meets a girl in the hospital who is dying of cancer, and then she dies." 1. Growing Pains, 'A Christmas Story' (1985): "Merry Christmas, no one."
