Like wow! The Hoodoo Gurus are back
Another highly underappreciated act from the 80s is back on the road this spring: Australia's Hoodoo Gurus is doing a short U.S. tour starting March 16 in Austin, Texas, and wrapping up March 31 in San Francisco. [See the band's website or its myspace page for more dates]
The band re-released their debut '84 album -- Stoneage Romeos -- last year along with a two-disc DVD featuring videos and documentary footage called Tunnel Vision.
Hoodoo Gurus was founded in Sydney in 1981, and the original lineup was best known for using three guitars and no bass player. They cracked the college radio charts in the U.S. in the later 80s with tunes such as "Bittersweet," "Like Wow, Wipeout!" and "What's My Scene?" (which they recently remade as "That's My Team" as a promotion for Australia's National Rugby League).
For this tour, their first in the U.S. since 1994, the lineup will include founder Dave Faulkner, drummer Mark Kingsmill, guitarist Brad Shepherd, and bassist Rick Grossman (who replaced Clyde Bramley in 1989).
