Dave Edmunds must have felt like slipping away before scoring this hit
It's time to add another song to the list of great driving songs of the '80s and the video for Dave Edmunds' Slipping Away makes the simple case for it with just the basics - cars and racing.
This makes Edmunds third appearance on Lost and Found (not including a Never Found sighting with Rockpile), however today's Slipping Away was his lone Top 40 hit in the U.S. when it hit No. 39 in 1983. Living a somewhat sheltered childhood, the video for Slipping Away was my first connection with Edmunds in the video era as the only song I ever heard on the radio by him was his 1971 classic I Hear You Knocking. I remember this video well as it was distinctive for its focus on U.K. stock car racing.
While we get plenty of performance footage of Edmunds, the stars of the video for Slipping Away is the hot mechanic and the cars. The noticeable difference is the style of the U.K. stock cars and that contact is legal in U.K. stock car racing resulting in some good demolition derby footage.
