Dennis Farina (aka Jimmy Serrano in 'Midnight Run') dies at age 69
Dennis Farina has more than 20 acting credits in the 1980s, but none are probably more memorable to '80s fans than his turn as the deliciously evil Jimmy Serrano in 1988's Midnight Run. Farina has died at age 69, media reports say.
Farina was a long-time veteran of the Chicago Police Department before he turned to acting in 1981's Thief. Other '80s credits include Crime Story, Manhunter, China Beach and Miami Vice. Outside the '80s, he was probably best known as Det. Fontana in Law & Order. But Mr. Farina hit his stride opposite Charles Grodin and Robert De Niro in Midnight Run.
Mr. Farina shot all his scenes for Midnight Run in Las Vegas, where he was also shooting Crime Story. Of the 119 f-bombs in the movie, his character of mob boss Jimmy Serrano has to be responsible for at least three-quarters of them.
The Chicago Tribune says the cause of death was a blood clot in his lung.
