Did you forget the 'other' remake of 'Lean on Me?'
Lean On Me is such a great catch phrase that it was the title of one movie and two songs in '80s. You might remember Morgan Freeman as the tough principal Crazy Joe in the 1989 box office hit and you definitely remember the Club Nouveau No. 1 smash remake of Bill Wither's classic song, but do you recall the other song, Lean On Me (ah-li-ayo) by Red Box?
While you might recognize Red Box as the movie rental kiosk business, unless you lived in the U.K., you probably do not recognize the duo of Red Box. In 1985, they had a No. 3 U.K. hit with Lean On Me (ah-li-ayo) whose video was nominated for the Brit Award's Video of the Year award. The video is all about happiness and distinguishes itself from other videos with the use of a sign-language interpreter. But even a interpreter can't explain what ah-li-ayo means - we just know it's a catchy phrase to hum at the end of Lean On Me.
Red Box is still together and you can follow all their activities on Facebook.
