Doom metal in the '80s? Sure, and this Candlemass video proves it
I seriously doubt if the Stuck in the '8s0 crew will ever get around to Doom Metal in the '80s, so with Halloween approaching we are going to take a stab at it and hope we live to see the end of the Candlemass video for Bewitched.
Candlemass is a Swedish metal band and have sold more than 15 million albums during their career. In 1987 they released Nightfall and promoted the album with the video for Bewitched that was directed by fellow Swede Jonas Akerland. Bewitched was Akerland's first video and the director would go on to win a Grammy for Best Video for Madonna's Ray Of Light and has directed other popular videos by Lady Gaga and Beyonce.
The video for Bewitched follows lead singer Messiah Marcolin from the grave to the streets of town to recruit a coven of headbangers and all the way back to the cemetery. Marcolin would leave Candlemass in 1991 before rejoining them in the '00s before exiting again. Candlemass is now on their sixth lead singer and in the process of recording a new EP and playing metal festivals in Europe.
