Fans didn't go nuts over this tune but don't blame the Kid
While August Darnell is from is from the Bronx and not New Orleans, his stage name, Kid Creole, totally reminds us of NOLA. His unique sound and style is also undeniable with songs like Endicott.
We've featured Kid Creole & the Coconuts before on Lost and Found with their song Male Curiosity in the movie Against All Odds. Their next move was in 1985 when Endicott was the first single of their album In Praise Of Older Women and Other Crimes. Other than the dance charts, Endicott did not see much chart success, but that doesn't take away from its colorful video.
Endicott is a song much like Adam Ant's Goody Two Shoes or The Undertones' My Perfect Cousin where Kid Creole feels unfairly compared to the oh-so-perfect Endicott. Video highlights are aplenty, but none so much for me than late in the video when the lovely Coconuts do their dance and raise their arms only to reveal they have shaved their armpits. It was quite the surprise as most early '80s videos involving the Coconuts, showed the lovely girls proudly displaying their hairy armpits - which fascinated me to no end in the early days of music videos.
