Feeling 'High 'n' Dry' for Wednesday's (not Saturday's) lost and found
A pivotal moment in the timeline of Def Leppard was when Mutt Lange was hired to become the producer of their second album, High 'n' Dry. Lange’s meticulous manners in the studio helped harness and define the new sound of Def Leppard and British metal.
For the advent of music videos, Def Leppard filmed multiple songs off High ‘n’ Dry on the same soundstage including the title track. High ‘n’ Dry (Saturday Night) chronicles the hard drinking ways of the band, an ominous detail for a band whose member, guitarist Steve Clark, died of an alcohol-related death.
Though the album sold well, it just a foretaste of what was to come as the Pyromania album would catapult Def Leppard into one of the most successful hard rock bands of the ‘80s. Def Leppard is only one of two bands to have two separate studio albums to sell over 10 millions copies in the U.S. during the ‘80s – Van Halen is the other.
Def Leppard still performs and lead singer Joe Elliott has been a podcast guest in SIT80’s.
