Friday lost and found: Electric Light Orchestra 'Calling America'
Electric Light Orchestra was a constant force from the mid-‘70s to the early ‘80s with twenty Top 40 hits, eight of which came in the ‘80s. While songs from the "Xanadu" soundtrack still remain popular and Hold On Tight was used in the '80s Coffee Achivers commercials and recent ads by Honda, forgotten by most is Calling America.
Calling America hit No. 18 on the singles chart in 1986 and would be ELO's last chart single. By 1986, ELO had eschewed its violins and became a trio and became the first ELO album to include a saxophone. In a confusing move, the video for Calling America was filmed in Paris.
ELO broke up later in 1986 and Jeff Lynne would go on to great feats in production anchoring big releases such as George Harrison's Cloud Nine and being part of The Traveling Wilburys.
