Friday lost and found: Hilly Michaels 'Calling All Girls'

One of pleasures of the early ‘80s videos is that many musicians didn’t take their videos so seriously and just wanted to have fun. You can keep your brooding, self-tormented artists and give me Hilly Michaels Calling All Girls anytime.

The video is smorgasbord of mixed media that was an introduction to the fast-paced videos that would soon dominate the airwaves of MTV.

Hilly played drums for Sparks in the ‘70s before embarking on a solo career and in 1980 released Calling All Girls. Michaels also appeared on the Caddyshack soundtrack with the song Something on Your Mind. Caddyshack fans will recognize the tune as the music accompanying Rodney Dangerfield’s boat-crashing scene; however, in the film the song plays without Hilly’s odd vocals.
