Friday's lost and found: Godley & Creme 'Cry'

With its face-morphing special effects, Godley & Crème’s video for Cry was an iconic video in 1985 that predated Michael Jackson’s more famous Black and White video by six years. Despite its success on MTV and a chart peak of No. 16 on the Billboard Charts, Cry barely makes a whimper on radio stations these days.

Most know that Godley & Crème came from the English band 10cc and their greatest success was in directing videos. Here is a partial list of videos that Godley & Crème directed: The Police: Every Breath You Take, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Synchronicity II; Frankie Goes To Hollywood: Two Tribes; Duran Duran: Girls on Film; Wang Chung: Everybody Have Fun Tonight; Herbie Hancock: Rock It; Asia: Heat of the Moment and Only Time Will Tell; Yes: Leave It; Howard Jones: Life in One Day and yes, Huey Lewis & the News: Hip to be Square.

Godley and Crème stopped making music and videos together in 1988.
