Golden Globe Winners: See who took home the trophies 30 years ago

8

January

Thirty years ago, at the 43rd annual Golden Globes Awards, it was all about grownups. No, not the Adam Sandler movies - the movies that were honored were pretty much off the radar of the ‘80s Generation.

Jon Voight won best drama actor for Runaway Train, which wins the Stuck in the ‘80s award for film most likely never to be covered in a podcast. Likewise, Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner won best musical/comedy actor trophies for Prizzi’s Honor, a movie nobody our age quotes … like ever.

The best film and best original score went to … Out of Africa? And Lionel Richie won best original song for Say You, Say Me, which isn’t even the best song on the White Nights soundtrack.

Some of our favorites who were nominated but didn’t win include: Harrison Ford (Witness); Michael J. Fox (Back to the Future); Cher (Mask); Rosanna Arquette (Desperately Seeking Susan); and even Back to the Future itself for best comedy.

On the television side of the awards, things felt more familiar.

Don Johnson and Edward James Olmos won best dramatic actor and supporting actor for Miami Vice. And, ummm, Bill Cosby won best comedic actor for The Cosby Show. Estelle Getty and Cybill Shephard tied for best comedic actress for The Golden Girls and Moonlighting.

Here’s a full list of winners back on Jan. 24, 1986.
