Great American Smokeout is perfect day for Dramarama's 'Last Cigarette'
Sometime during the course of the day you'll probably hear that today is The Great American Smokeout, designed as a day of encouragement to help smokers kick the habit. If you smoke, perhaps you can join Dramarama and have one Last Cigarette.
Dramarama is a New Jersey band that become a steady presence on the alternative scene in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s with classics like Anything, Anything, Haven't Got A Clue and of course Last Cigarette. In 1989, Last Cigarette was a solid hit making it to No. 13 on the Mainstream Rock Charts.
In the refrain for Last Cigarette, leader singer John Easdale sarcastically admits, "I know it's killing me." The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that more than 400,000 Americans die each year due to smoking and that 5 million die worldwide each year.
