Great songs from bad movies: Andy Taylor's 'Take It Easy'
One of my favorite Lost and Found weeks last year was when we covered forgotten movie songs like You're the Best Around from The Karate Kid. Coupled with this spring's triumphant SIT80's Soundtrack Madness contest, it only seems natural that we spend this week in the heart of the summer movie season to once again plunder for excellent forgotten songs that were featured in '80s movies.
American Anthem featuring gymnast Mitch Gaylord and Janet Jones (Mrs. Wayne Gretzky) may be one of the worst rated movies of the ‘80s (clocking in with an IMDB rating of 3.2) but that didn't mean that Andy Taylor's Take It Easy didn't rock.
Taylor had already had a successful career with Duran Duran and The Power Station and Take It Easy added to his ‘80s resume as the single reached No. 24 in 1986. Your moment of Zen comes later in the video as you get to see Gaylord's Gold Medal winning gymnastic moves all set to the hot guitar licks of the long-haired Taylor. You won't see Taylor appear in a Duran Duran reunion as bridges were burned in 2008 after constant studio arguments and Taylor's tell-all autobiography Wild Boy: My Life in Duran Duran.
