Here Is The News for ELO fans: This video is still headline worthy
Did you hear the news? Last month, the SIT80's blog reported on the new release by ELO so we'll celebrate the new release on Lost and Found by remembering some old news by ELO with Here Is The News.
Although the release is listed as Jeff Lynne's ELO, the new album Alone In the Universe (with the signature ELO UFO artwork) is mostly a solo affair with Lynne performing all the music. A new video for the first single When I Was A Boy is very slick affair that contrasts for the low budget Here Is The News that was a Top 40 hit in the UK in 1982 and is from their 1981 album Time that featured the more popular Hold On Tight.
The video for Here Is The News is archaic showing contemporary newsroom technology like ticker tape and typewriters although the song is about news reporting in the future when hourly updates will be about space travel issues like rocket lag and meteor showers. Oddly enough, there were several ews stations around the globe that used the intro to Here Is The News for actual theme music. Here Is The News also sounds a little new wavy for ELO as synthesizers replace the string instruments we grew up listening to in the '70s.
After some promotional appearances in the U.S., Jeff Lynne's ELO will be tackling a short stadium tour in Europe in this spring.
