It's lunacy The Motels missed the U.S. charts with this moon shot
2015 was a big year for moon viewing and 2016 will be even more eventful. So before we look forward to this year's Supermoon, let's go back to the '80s and revisit another great lost lunar viewing with Martha Davis and Tell It To The Moon.
On November 14th the moon will be 217,000 miles away from Earth - the closest distance it has been since 1948. The moon will not be this close again until 2034 and the occurrence will make tides rise around 25 percent more and might even bring to mind the Martha Davis song Tell It To The Moon from 1987. Even though Tell It To The Moon is another pop gem written by the song-writing machine Diane Warren, it did not chart as the second single off of Davis' first solo album Policy. For reasons unknown, Policy never took off in America, but in Australia, it spawned four singles including Tell It To The Moon, which peaked at No. 65.
The video for Tell It To The Moon is stylish and directed by an upstart named David Fincher (Gone Girl, Social Network) and has Davis channeling a noir movie star, much like her video for Only The Lonely, her biggest hit with The Motels. After many moons apart, The Motels have reunited and have plans for a 2016 album.
