Jimmy Love Maryanne, and '80s fans love Josie Cotton
In the early '80s, Josie Cotton asked the question, Johnny, Are You Queer?, but a few years later, Josie stopped asking questions and started making statements with Jimmy Love Maryanne.
With the interest of her songs in Valley Girl, Cotton was poised to build on her success with a new album and the featured single Jimmy Love Maryanne. Cotton took the song to No. 82 and that was the last time Cotton charted on the Top 100. Jimmy Loves Maryanne is a remake of a Top 40 hit in 1973 by the band Looking Glass, most famous for their sing-a-long classic Brandy (You're a Fine Girl).
The video for Jimmy Loves Maryanne promotes native Texan Cotton as a sex symbol and features bizarre circus sidekicks, interesting murals of Hispanic and nature images all to a rocking backbeat.
