Just wishing that Paul Young would come back and stay for good this time

How popular was Paul Young in ‘80s? Good enough to handle the first lyrics for Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas. While Young was a sensation in his native England, he was steady in American scoring five Top 40 hits in America, including his first US hit Come Back and Stay in 1984.

Come Back and Stay peaked at No. 22 on the singles charts and had three videos made for the single. The video featured today is referred to the "Seashore Version" and is the one that aired on MTV with Young's high rise hair. In another video, Young is shown trying to win back the heart of a video model named Stacey Smith whom Young eventually would marry.

While Come Back and Stay has a certain New Wave feel, Young would become most associated with his White Soul covers including his remake of Hall and Oates 1980 album cut Everytime You Go Away that hit No. 1 in 1985.
