Kiss the '80s goodbye? Del Amitri gave it a shot
Del Amitri in the '80s? Yes, don't be surprised as they finished our favorite decade out with a kiss goodbye and an underrated hit.
Del Amitri is a Scottish band led by Justin Currie and their band name is just a name made up to amuse themselves. While they are mostly recognized with their 1995 Top 10 hit Roll To Me, Del Amitri started off in the 80s. In the summer of 1989, they released the single Kiss This Thing Goodbye . The song did not go anywhere, but Del Amitri keep promoting and their third single Nothing Ever Happens finally became a hit in the U.K. and stimulated a rerelease of Kiss This Thing Goodbye. This time the single took root and it became a Top 40 hit in the U.S. peaking at No. 35 in the summer of 1990.
The video for Kiss This Thing Goodbye is no frills for the song that ended up be a bigger hit in America than the U.K. Del Amitri would end up with three Top 40 hits in the U.S. with Always The Last To Know joining Roll To Me and Kiss This Thing Goodbye. The band reunited a few years ago and put out a live album but with little activity recently.
