Lost and found: Al Jarreau's 'Garden Roof'

Monday finds us reminiscing again about HBO’s Video Jukebox show. One of the early staple videos for HBO was Al Jarreau’s Garden Roof from his 1981 album Breakin’ Away, which earned him a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal.

I never tire of the video as Jarreau is the master of expression and the dancers capture the early '80s workout fashion craze. As much as I love Jarreau’s dazzling array of facial movements, he only places third on the Funny Face Singer rankings behind Joe Cocker and Eddie Money.

Even though Jarreau only scored three Top 40 Hits in the ‘80s, including the theme for Moonlighting, Jarreau won seven Grammys and was revered enough to land a prestigious line in USA for Africa’s We Are The World (… and so we must lend a helping hand). Although he is in his 70s, Jarreau still tours all over the world.
