Lost and found: Jason and the Scorchers 'White Lies'

To describe the music played by Jason and the Scorchers, a new category had to be created – Cowpunk. The Scorchers gained a loyal following and critical accolades in the ‘80s, but never reached success on the radio as they were too rock for country, too country for rock and too everything for all other stations.

White Lies, from the aptly named album, Lost & Found, hit No. 34 on the Mainstream Rock chart in 1985 and is a good example of the high-octane rock created by the Scorchers.

Jason Ringenberg still plays with the Scorchers when he is not performing his children’s material as Farmer Jason. Unforunately, drummer Perry Baggs, died in 2012 of diabetes complications. This band continues to be one of my all time favorites and I was lucky to witness their raw energy performances several times at the peak of their powers in the ‘80s.
