Mario Machado, the ultimate TV actor/anchor, dies at 78

You might not recognize Mario Machado unless he's holding a microphone and wearing a tie. The actor played the role of "newsman/TV interviewer" in scores of '80s movies and TV shows, including Scarface, RoboCop, Golden Girls, Falcon Crest and even Rocky III.

Mr. Machado died Saturday in California of complications of pneumonia, his daughter told the L.A. Times. In addition to playing a TV newsman on screen, Mr. Machado was one in real life as well, working at KCBS-TV.

If you're looking for a non-newsman role, just turn on St. Elmo's Fire, when he played businessman Kim Sung Ho. His one big line? "Where ... is Kirby ... Kreger" -- right after Emilio trashes his house during a party.
