Monday lost and found: Alcatrazz 'Island in the Sun'

During the Christmas/New Years break last year, Lost and Found dedicated a week to the harder side of ‘80s music so with summer coming to a close, its seems a fitting week to roll down the windows, crank up the volume to eleven and unearth some hard rock gems.

The prison island of Alcatraz has long been a subject of fascination with movies and music and the ‘80s was no different with videos by the Scorpions and hard rock band Alcatrazz.

In 1983, Alcatrazz hit the album charts with No Parole from Rock n Roll and the song Island in the Sun. The video is a fun nod to the prison as veteran singer Graham Bonnet and his mates are pitted behind bars with only their music and woman guards to make the time pass.

Alcatrazz stopped releasing new material in 1986 and guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen would become regarded as one of the best guitarist, if not the fastest, of the ‘80s. Malmsteen has just released his memoir entitled Relentless.
