Never Found in the '80s - The Jesus and Mary Chain
The Jesus and Mary Chain out of Scotland created quite a buzz, both musically and with critics, with their 1985 debut album, Psychocandy. The Jesus and Mary Chain were hailed as the next big thing out of the UK by critics in those early days. They were going to be the UK's biggest musical act since the Sex Pistols. Well, settle down there, boys and girls. The band did manage some success on the UK charts and the Modern Rock charts, but the American Pop charts? Nope.
Today's song, Never Understand, is from their debut album. It feels like a surfin' song layered in buzzing guitar feedback.
Formed in 1983 by brothers Jim and William Reid, the band produced six studio albums and toured until 1998, when tensions between the brothers led to the breakup of the band. But the band reunited in 2007 and, in September of last year, Jim Reid announced the band would be recording a new album. The first since 1998's Munki.
Oh! And a bit of trivia. This song was one of the Mystery Tunes Steve used in the early days of that seggie, and I was the only 80s Nation member who was able to identify it.
