Never Found in the 80s - The Soft Boys
Before there was Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians, before there was Katrina & the Waves; there was The Soft Boys. The Soft Boys was a short-lived band (1976 - 1980) from Cambridge, England. They produced two albums in that brief stint. One of which was Underwater Moonlight (1980). Not much of a hit when released, Underwater Moonlight has become a milestone recording in the neo-psychedelic music scene and it has been included on the "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" list.
Led by Robyn Hitchcock and Kimberly Rew, The Soft Boys produced some very catchy, jangly, guitar pop with Hitchcock's always a bit odd lyrics. No videos were produced that I could find, so you'll just have to listen to enjoy today's song. It's called Queen Of Eyes and it's a worthy bit of jangly, guitar, pop psychedelia that never made the charts.
The Soft Boys broke up shortly after the release of Underwater Moonlight. Hitchcock went on as a solo artist and as the aforementioned Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians (Never Found artist from April, 2013) and later with Venus 3. Rew moved on as one of Katrina's Waves and penned their one hit Walking On Sunshine.
The Soft Boys have reunited a couple of times since 1980, but they have not been active since 2003.
