Post-Labor Day Lost and Found: Graham Parker 'Get Started, Start A Fire'
In 2012, the Judd Apatow movie This is 40 got mixed reviews for his story based on the mid-life crisis of a married couple played by Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. In the movie, Rudd plays a music agent who takes on Graham Parker (playing himself) and features many of Parker’s ‘70s songs and a scene where Parker is taken to the doctor with a touch of gout. I contend the movie would have fared better if Apatow would have included some of Parker’s ‘80s music, such as 1988’s Get Started, Start A Fire.
Get Started, Start A Fire was the lead single off Parker’s excellent The Mona Lisa’s Sister album and reached No. 23 on the Rock Tracks charts. The album was named by Rolling Stone as one of the top 100 albums of the ‘80s and also has one of the best album covers with a drawing of a nun in full habit smoking a cigarette.
In 2012, Parker and his old backup band, The Rumour, reunited and released their first new material in over 30 years with the album Three Chords.
