Prince secretly bought house from ‘Purple Rain’

Remember late last year when we reported that the house featured in the movie Purple Rain was up for sale? Turns out there was an interested party who couldn’t wait to buy it: Prince.

The Star-Tribune reports that the 3-bedroom house at 3420 Snelling Ave. in Longfellow, Minneapolis, was sold for $117,000 to Prince last summer, eight months before his death. It was an all-cash deal.

Technically it was bought by NPG Music Publishing, the musician’s publishing company. Exteriors of the house were used in the 1984 movie; Prince himself never lived at the home, though the movie is somewhat autobiographical in nature.

“I don’t think he had a plan. I think he just wanted it,” guessed the home’s selling agent, Deborah Larsen of Coldwell Banker Burnet told the newspaper. Upon his death, Prince's "house" became part of his estate.
