Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to announce 2017 nominees on Tuesday
Here we go again. Let’s all turn our attention to the Rolling Stone Hall of Fame … err, I mean Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as it prepares to announce its 2017 class of nominees on Tuesday morning.
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after their first record is released, so newly eligible musicians this year include really nobody from the ‘80s: Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, PJ Harvey, Alanis Morissette, Temple of the Dog, Tori Amos, Paul Weller, The Cranberries, Aphex Twin and The Prodigy. (Never heard of the last two.)
Reports are circulating that these ‘80s acts are also under serious consideration this year: The Smiths, The Cure, Tom Petty (as a solo musician), Bon Jovi, Janet Jackson, The Cars, Sting, Tracy Chapman and Los Lobos.
Nice to see two female musicians on the list, but raise your hand if you think Duran Duran is being robbed in this whole process.
