Sunday earworm: Thompson Twin's 'In the Name of Love'

16

October

Lately, I've been on a Thompsons Twins kick, and one of the songs that always bubbles up to the top of my playlists is the 1982 song In the Name of Love. For starters, it's the song that frontman Tom Bailey has using as the opening tune for all his recent live gigs. And it was the band's first hit in the early '80s.

Though it wasn't a huge hit on the mainstream charts, In the Name of Love did top the dance charts for five weeks in '82 (and even reached No. 29 on the soul charts). The song also has the distinction of appearing on two albums - Set (which didn't get a U.S. release) and In the Name of Love (the U.S. version of Set, which combined tracks from Thompson Twins' first two albums.

It also maintains a place in '80s movie history, appearing in both Ghostbusters and Valley Girl.

A remix of In the Name of Love would top the dance charts again in 1988. If you're hooked on the Thompson Twins too, relive our epic interview with Tom Bailey from 2014.
