The Coconuts (minus Kid Creole) express some love issues
Kid Creole and the Coconuts was a New York City music and dance act that took advantage of video to promote their unusual big band sound in a rock video world. A constant on early video shows like HBO's Video Jukebox, viewers easily recognized Zoot Suit Kid Creole and his lovely bunch of Coconuts.
By 1983, Kid Creole let the Coconuts do their own album that featured Did You Have To Love Me Like You Did. The three Coconuts were led by Adriana "Addy" Keagi from Switzerland who choreographed all the Coconut videos and was married to Kid Creole (August Darnell). Though the song failed to chart, the video is hip fun that features the girls do the Congo in their vintage cigarette box girl outfits, which is more clothes than The Coconuts usually parade around in concert and videos.
Darnell and Keagi would eventually divorce in 1985. The Coconuts still exist and perform with Kid Creole although all originals members in this video have been replaced. Keagi would go on to have a successful career in internet-related enterprises.
