The curse of the Psychedelic Furs: Great songs, but fleeting commercial success

So it's almost been three years for Lost and Found and we have never featured the Psychedelic Furs on Lost and Found? Hold on as we correct that error and put you English pop heaven with Heaven.

Anyone who has followed the SIT80's blog and podcast know that Steve Spears is a huge fan of the Psychedelic Furs and his steady mention of them has probably been the main reason for never featuring the Furs on a column of lost music. But the sad truth is for most casual '80s music fans, the Furs are only known for Pretty In Pink and perhaps one or two other singles.

Heaven is a good example of a song that is fairly popular in circles like Sirius New Wave, but never even charted in the America. In fact, Pretty in Pink was not a U.S. Top 40 hit (peaked at No. 41) even though it was synonymous with the John Hughes movie. The only Top 40 hit for the Furs in America was Heartbreak Beat and even in their home country of England they had only two Top 40 hits with Pretty in Pink and today's featured Heaven.

The video for Heaven features brothers Richard and Tim Butler (former SIT80's podcast guest) braving the cold rain but giving us one of their most beloved songs. The Furs made six albums in the '80s and while they haven't released an non-greatest hits Furs album since 1991 when the Butler brothers formed Love Spit Love.  The Furs continue to tour and will be in St. Petersburg on Nov. 4 at The Palladium.
