The other 'My Girl' ... this time by Chilliwack
One of my favorite SIT80’s podcasts is the “Canada” show in which many of the under the radar acts north of the border were featured. In the podcast, Sean Daly declares, “I love me some Chilliwack!” and he is not alone in his declaration of love of the four-man band from Vancouver.
Formed in 1970, Chilliwack scored their first USA Top 40 hit in 1981 when they hit No. 22 with My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone).
While Chilliwack did not have massive chart success in the states, they were steady on the Canadian charts with six Top 10 hits, including My Girl that hit No. 1 in the Great White North. Chilliwack is not a made up name, as it is a city one hour east of Vancouver, not too far from the Washington state border.
Chilliwack’s last studio album was in 1983 and they still perform, although with only one original member.
