Tropical Storm mantra for Thursday: 'Everything is Good'
While many all-girl bands had breakout success in the ‘80s, not everyone had the success of The Bangles, Go-Gos or Banarama. Acoustic groups in particular did not gain widespread appeal as proven by three sisters from New Jersey known as The Roches.
The Roches debut album in 1979 started off promising landing a prestigious gig as Paul Simon’s musical guest on Saturday Night Live in 1979. In the ‘80s, The Roches had their music featured in the 1988 film Crossing Delancy and released five albums in our favorite decasde including 1989’s Speak.
Though never gaining much video or airplay, Speak featured some fine mellow and acoustic music including Everyone is Good. The song is a pretty good representation of The Roches sound and shows off the idealistic but quirky song topics and the beautiful harmonies by Suzzy, Terre and Maggie Roche.
