Tuesday lost and found: The Kings 'The Beat Goes On'
In 1980, the Canadian band The Kings released an album called The Kings are Here that did well in their home country. The lead single was actually two songs combined together called The Beat Goes On/Switchin’ to Glide that was championed by many U.S. big city radio stations and started to gain attention. However, their label (Elektra) was so clueless; they didn’t issue the song as a single nor make copies available to promotional outlets so it never charted in the US.
Despite all this, The Beat Goes On/Switchin’ to Glide has stood the test of time and has become a cult favorite for ‘80s music lovers.
The Kings are still together and in finally in 2006, took a massive collection of video performances and edited them into a Youtube video for their best known song.
