'Urgh! A Music War' Week: Echo & the Bunnymen

It is day two of my week long look at the musical artists featured in the 1982 concert film Urgh! A Music War. And today’s never found artist is Echo & the Bunnymen. The song is their 1980 single The Puppet.

The band started as a three piece with a drum machine providing the beat in Liverpool, England, in 1978. And, no, as the band denies, Echo was not the name of the drum machine. In 1980, the band set aside the computerized beat maker for a live drummer and continued as a four piece.

In 1988, lead singer Ian McCulloch left the band to follow a solo career. The band continued without him until 1993. Ian got a semblance of the band back together in 1997 and they are still making music today.

Their most recent activity was to tour in December 2010 promoting their first two albums Crocodiles and Heaven Up Here.
